Alaska's flag may be one of my favorites. 8 golden stars on a sea of blue make up the Big Dipper and the Northern Star in the upper right! Did you know the Big dipper is in the constellation Ursa Major which symbolizes a bear, an indigenous Alaskan animal? As the flag shows, its stars can also be used as a guide to determine true north. If you find the Big Dipper, you can find most major constellations! Leo is right underneath it, the handle arcs to Bootes & then Virgo (I'm a Virgo). Polaris (North Star) is also the last star in the handle of the Little Dipper. I just love the symbolism and simplistic beauty! What an awesome flag.
